Disney Park Deadpool Performer Faces Backlash for Insensitive Joke
Deadpool is a character known for pushing boundaries and challenging the audience. Ryan Reynolds’ portrayal of the merc with a mouth has become synonymous with his witty and provocative style. While this style originates from the comics, Reynolds has taken it to new heights in recent years.
Disney Park Performers Channeling Reynolds
Disney Parks performers who don the Deadpool suit strive to entertain guests by emulating Reynolds’ comedic flair. They draw inspiration from his portrayal to deliver an amusing and engaging experience.
However, a recent incident involving a Disney performer has sparked controversy. During an event called ‘Storytime with Deadpool’ in a Disney Park, the performer made jokes at the expense of a deceased Disney park guest.
Tragic Backstory
The incident is tied to the unfortunate death of a woman named Kanokporn Tangsuan. She reportedly suffered a fatal allergic reaction after consuming a meal at a Disney park. Her husband initially intended to sue the park but was legally unable to do so due to accepting the terms and conditions of Disney+ in 2019.
A Step Too Far
During ‘Storytime with Deadpool,’ the performer in costume made a joke insinuating that Cinderpool, a variation of the character, was late to a battle because he had to read the lengthy terms and conditions of Disney+. The remark crossed a line for some fans who viewed it as insensitive and inappropriate.
The clip of the joke circulated on social media, leading to backlash from Marvel fans. One Twitter user expressed discomfort, stating, Kinda makes my skin crawl. Another user criticized Disney for trivializing a tragic event, saying, Someone f**king died and now Disney is having the fun quirky character say this to make us only view insane policy as a ‘stupid’ thing rather than some actual 1984 bullshit.
While some acknowledged the humor in the joke, they felt it was inappropriate given the circumstances. A user named MaidArchonRoses commented, I hate this because this is a great joke for a Disney Deadpool to say, but this joke exists because someone fucking died and this is their way to turn it into laughing material.
