Blackburn v Burnley prediction
Despite being held to goalless draws in each of their last two matches, Burnley moved into the automatic promotion places after their stalemate against Stoke on New Year’s Day, and head into the weekend just three points off the top of the Championship table.
Their point on Wednesday afternoon extended their current run to just one defeat in their last 22 matches in all competitions, including without having lost in any of their last 12.
Scott Parker’s side defensive record remains a sublime one, conceding only nine league goals from their 25 matches this season, and includes clean sheets in each of their last three games.
Blackburn head into their home East Lancashire Derby on a current four match winless run, but that does include snatching late draws against an automatic promotion chasing Sunderland side on Boxing Day and a top of the table Leeds side on Wednesday afternoon, scoring in the 90th minute on each occasion.
John Eustace’s side have dropped outside the play-off positions following their current winless run, but will have their tales up after their last gasp draw at Elland Road on New Year’s Day, which leaves them with only goal difference separating themselves from the top six.
Rovers must beat a Burnley side who boast the best away record in the second tier this season to overturn their current 10-game unbeaten run against their East Lancashire rivals.
The Clarets have structured themselves as the most difficult side to beat in their Championship this season with only two defeats and nine goals conceded all season, and I expected them to get back to winning ways on Saturday and extend Blackburn’s winless run to five matches with a narrow but relatively comfortable 1-0 away win.

Burnley captain Josh Brownhill is the club’s top goal scorer this season, scoring three times as many goals as the next best despite playing in midfield for the entire season, with three goals in his last five games taking him one short of double figures for the campaign.
The Clarets boast by far the best defensive record in the league with just nine goals conceded, though haven’t been so dominant at the other end, scoring the joint 12th most goals, while eight of Blackburn’s last nine games have seen fewer than three goals scored.
