Nine months of football comes down to one game
LA Galaxy will host the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, December 7 for the MLS Cup. It’s an opportunity for the Galaxy to reclaim their throne as the best team in the country and win their sixth MLS Cup. On the other hand, the Red Bulls are looking to make history by winning their first-ever MLS Cup after 30 years of existence.

The Winner: Riqui Puig
While the Galaxy reached the MLS Cup in dramatic fashion, the success comes with sadness as Riqui Puig, the star player of the team, suffered a torn ACL during the victorious night against Seattle. Despite the injury, Puig continued playing and even provided the assist that took the Galaxy to the brink of a title. His dedication and courage in playing through such a severe injury make him a true winner. Puig’s exceptional performance throughout the season, with 13 goals and 10 assists in 29 matches, has solidified his position as one of the best players in MLS.

Although Puig won’t be able to play in the final, his impact on the team and the league is undeniable. He is a loss for the entire MLS, but his strength and determination will inspire the Galaxy to continue fighting for the title.
The Loser: Seattle Sounders Ownership
Seattle Sounders had a good season, but their semi-final defeats in both the US Open Cup and MLS Cup playoffs prevented it from being a great one. Seattle has consistently been a strong team and reached the MLS Cup final twice in the past eight years, but they have only won it once. The ownership’s failure to invest in the team and bring in top talent has left Seattle falling short year after year.

Seattle’s ownership has failed to turn the team into a great one, despite their consistent competitiveness. Other teams in the league are investing more and bringing in talented players, leaving the Sounders behind. While the ownership has made attempts to strengthen the team, such as the signing of Pedro de la Vega, they have often fallen short. Seattle finds themselves close but not quite there, always feeling like they are one signing away from success.
The Winner: The MLS Script-Writers
The MLS as a whole has made history this season with a year full of twists and turns. The playoffs have been marked by unpredictable results, with several surprise teams making it far. The New York Red Bulls represent this unpredictability by reaching the MLS Cup final as the seventh seed, making them the first seventh-seed team to reach the final.

The Red Bulls’ journey to the final has been nothing short of remarkable. They have overcome strong opponents and secured three clean sheets in four games, including playing three away games. Their run in the playoffs showcases the magic and unpredictability of football, making it one of the greatest runs in MLS history. The script-writers have delivered a truly memorable season filled with drama and excitement.
Congratulations to all the teams involved, and best of luck to the LA Galaxy and New York Red Bulls in the MLS Cup final.
