The 2025 PGA Tour season kicks off at The Sentry in Hawaii
The 2025 PGA Tour season is set to begin with The Sentry tournament in Hawaii this week. It is the first tournament of the year and holds the distinction of being the first signature event with a prize purse of $20 million.

The tournament will feature 60 players competing at the Plantation Course on the island of Maui. Known for its traditionally low scores, the defending champion from last January is Chris Kirk, who finished with an impressive 29-under-par. Other recent winners include Jon Rahm and Cameron Smith.
However, notable names like Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler will not be participating. McIlroy is focused on launching the new TGL league alongside Tiger Woods, while Scheffler is sidelined due to injury. Nevertheless, golfers such as Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Aberg, and Robert MacIntyre will be vying for early-season success.

The Sentry: What has been said?
Scheffler has withdrawn from The Sentry due to a bizarre injury sustained while cooking Christmas dinner. The world number one underwent surgery on his hand, resulting from a puncture wound caused by a broken glass. His manager, Blake Smith, confirmed that Scheffler will be out of action for three to four weeks, missing The Sentry but aiming to return for The American Express.
